Because we live in the Pacific Northwest…

2 Apr

We go to the zoo in 50 degree weather and love every min of it. We had a great time at the zoo today, it was a little chilly at first but the sun did come out toward the end of the trip. We saw bears and zebras and turkeys and lions and tigers and pumas and all kids of animals both kids loved it and the playground there kept them busy when we were not looking at animals. On our way back from the zoo we stopped at the dairy for some very yummy local ice cream and make a mess with it the whole way home but it was totally worth it.

What does Spring Mean?

23 Mar

It means it’s still too cold in the early morning to go straight outside so… Parade time.

It means once it has warmed up a little we head outside for chores, today it was mean weed whacking and them riding bike and scooter. I love hearing them have fun together outside.

It means planting the garden with little helpers, which means who knows where things will start growing cause little hands and little seeds don’t always find the little hole but it’s fun to have them next to me helping so we go with it.

It means having a picnic at the park with our friends and neighbors, it means playing baseball and keeping your blinds open later. It means cleaning and organizing. It means loose the hat, just wear the coat. I hope this weather is here to stay.

Happy spring.

Slumber Party

10 Mar

I am watching Andrea’s kids tonight all night and we have had a fun night so far. Playdough and trains and nerd guns and jumping on the trampoline. My kids were at her house last weekend for the night. I am so glad that these kids live so close and play so well together.

party party party.

25 Feb

Happy Happy Birthday to Carason, we love him and can’t believe he is 4! We are still partying, he has his party with all the family on Sunday. Last week we took him to Chuck e Cheese with my Mom and Dad and played, luckily we picked the one week night where there was a school fundraiser going on so the place was packed. He still had a good time playing all the games.

Then Friday He had a party at the Karate Quest, where all his friends came and celebrated with him. He had a good time. He yells key yah!, every time he hits or kicks anything now cause that is what he learned. Thanks all who came and celebrated with him he is a lucky little guy to have such cute sweet friends.

Stay tuned for more photos after party number 3 :)

A Bit Challenging

10 Feb

Carson will be 4 in less than 2 weeks and I love him so much, he is the biggest cuddler I have ever met. His Ideal situation would be for his whole family to sleep in a twin bed cause he just like to be that close to us while sleeping. He has been coming into our bed in the middle of the night ever since we switched him to a toddler bed 2 years ago. I have a bad back and neck so this has been a problem cause I don’t get any sleep when he is laying on top of be and stoking my hair like I have a cat (which by the way is the reason I don’t have cats). He has been asking for a bunk bed for his birthday for a couple months. We got him one and he loves it he sleeps in on the top bunk all night and his little sister finally took her turn at the bottom last night and at 6 am I went into check on them and they were both asleep on the bottom. In a way I feel bad for the poor girl cause I think she really likes her space when she sleeps and now she has no choice :) Carson claimed to be too hot up top so he went down to the bottom but really I know he just wanted someone to snuggle up to.

On a separate note. Carson and I have been having some very interesting conversations and they have been a little bit challenging for me. Our wonderful neighbor and fiend is a firefighter. He volunteers every year in aug at a burn camp for kids. Him and his cute wife and little girl go to the camp and play with kids who have been burned badly by house fires or car fires or whatever. Well he made a video of the camp this last aug and he gave it to me to watch. I was watching it this morning when carson came over and stated to watch it (he made it to good music and carson was intrigued) Anyway the kids on the video have all been very badly burnt to the point that their faces are pretty deformed and some of the kids don’t have hands and so forth. Carson said “does he have a mask on?, that is scary”. I explained to him that he was in his house when his house caught on fire and he was burnt. He has been asking me questions all day. I don’t want him to be constantly scared and I am not sure how to answer some of his questions “mom will our house ever catch on fire?” I have taken the opportunity to explain to him that if it does we will all do our best to get out and we live right by a fireman who can help and we have fire alarms that will tell us when there is a fire but he is not quit satisfied with my answers cause he keeps bringing it up??

Then we were stopped by a police car today at an intersection and Carson looked over and read K9 on the car and asked me what that meant I told him it meant the police man had a trained dog with him and he asked me why he had a dog and I told him the dog can smell bad guys and drugs and helps the police man. He then asked me what drugs are and I tired to give him by best 4 year old explanation. He looked at me in the mirror and said “mom, I am never going to eat drugs”. I love this kid, he is so interested in what is going on around him and so wants to know what to do and how to be good and right. I was not prepared for some of his questions but I am so glad I get to talk to him and be the one to teach him things.

Life Saver!

18 Jan

This was so fun, for me too :) Can’t say it kept them busy for hours, not sure if there is anything that can do that other than friends or me. They played for 15 mins in it and then did something else but they always came back to it and it was really no mess and they swept up easy. Fun snow day activity. Will keep it up for a day or so and then take down for a while to build interest back up.

Instead of Church we…

15 Jan

Yep, you guessed it, played in the snow.

Carson had a great time outside in the snow this morning and we only get it about once a year so we decided to take advantage of it and play hard. We have wonderful neighbors who came out to play with us and soon Richie had pulled out the lawn mower and was taking the kids for rides in the tubes. They we all joined in to make a snowman. It is a great snowman when you need a ramp to get all the pieces on. I so don’t like snow but I will take it for a day so my kids can play but I am hoping it will be gone soon. I am not one to stay home and it scares me a little to dry too far in it.

Happy snow day.

there is a time and a season.

Happy Happy New Year. I love fresh starts and goals. I know sometimes the resolutions that we make can fade quickly but I love looking back at the things that happened in the past year and thinking, I made it. I can do it again and even better this year.

I have not been so into blogging lately, I have started reading, I know, for those who know me that is a shock. I am not a reader, in fact if I had all day to myself reading would not even make it to the top 10 things that I would do. However, like I mentioned it is a new year and I am giving it a try. My brothers girlfriend recommended a good book to me and Peter bought it for me for Christmas. I am not that fast, which is one of the reasons I don’t like to read, so it might take me a while to finish it. I have to say I have enjoyed sitting in front of the fireplace with my slippers on and reading instead of being tied to electronics during my free time.

I have always been one to want to be outside no matter what the weather is. I have also tried to get my kids to do the same. I believe in getting hats and coats and boots and playing outside just as if it were sunny and warm out. My kids on the other hand have a very very very low tolerance for cold weather, Kate more than carson, so we usually make it outside on nice winter days for about 15 mins before I start to hear, I am cold. I think outside play is so good for you so it bums me out when we only make it a short time before heading in to warm up. Peter had today off and went out to play baseball with carson. Carson came inside a couple mins later to ask if we could go to the park so I jumped at the idea and bundled kate up and away we went.

I am looking forward to 2012, I can’t believe it’s here already. I have had such a good break with both my brothers here this last week it has been fun playing games and eating out and watching them tackle my kids. We all got to go to dinner together while my aunts watched our kids and it was really relaxing to just chat.

Tis the season

12 Dec

December is always a busy month filled with so much fun stuff to do. We are fortunate enough to live a block from where a carriage ride was taking place last weekend so we walked on over and jumped on with our great neighbors and before ya know it we were off singing jungle bells.

Carson’s preschool took a field trip to an elementary school to have the 3rd graders help them make ginger bread houses. Carson loved it and did not want to leave the big kids school. The older kids were so cute and kind to the preschoolers it was a great time.

Carson’t preschool had a Christmas program today and it was so sweet. Carson lovers to sing and I was so happy that he sang so loud. He was so glad that his dad and Bama and cousin Adelle could be there to watch him.

1st Santa of the season

3 Dec

We went to the lighted boat parade last night and it was so fun. I love watching my kids look and experience new things. Carson sat with Santa as usual. Kate was happy to just repeat “ho ho ho” from a safe distance. I love hanging out with my parents and my kids feel so loved and taken care of with them. I love this holiday season and I am so thankful for wonderful kids who really know and understand the reason for the season. They love to play with the nativity and talk to me about the baby Jesus. Today Carson asked me, “mom, why is God in my heart” I love being able to have small and simple moments with him.
